Facing the spills listens to a shapeshifter's tactile encounters with the genealogy of a changing Arctic border landscape. Shrubs crackling in midsummer, mushrooms on their decades-long cycle decomposing WWII ruins amid renewed Arctic preparedness, rivers are dammed borders, fjords – solidified waste facilities, Indigenous hunting pits outscaled by settler mining pits.

Moving beyond language, the non-narrative film engages sound as a multisensory encounter with this patchwork and finds traces of multispecies adaptability which invite transformative imaginaries.

The protagonist, stumbling on scorched ammunition on her jogging round, frustrated at the ’never again’ that is happening, kicks it away, activating layers of intergenerational hurt stored in the landscape on the Norwegian side of Sápmi bordering Finland and Russia. Finding a body-cam witnessing herself as a victim in a parallel realm, she aims to heal by listening to the landscape’s resilience in exhausting violence.
